What is a domain name?

Put simply a domain name is the address that people use to find you or your company online.  It's what you type in the browser's address bar to go to a specific website or in the “to” box of your email program to send a message.  e.g. ready.com.au, website: www.ready.com.au or mail: David@ready.com.au

Why do I need one?

Even if you think you do not need to have a web site at this stage, you need to have an email address.  If you are using an address ending in @telstra.com, @optusnet.com.au, iinet.com.au or similar, your address is tied to your current service provider and you a locked into staying with that provider no matter what they do or how much you grow to hate them.  If you have your own domain name YOU own that name and YOU choose who looks after your email addresses (and website, if you have one).  You are free to change your Internet Service Provider without needing to tell all your clients a new email address as you always keep your domain address.  Having an address such as vicki@bestlittlecoffeeshop.com.au looks much more professional than vick1782@hotmail.com.

How difficult is it to set up?

We do all the email account set up for you.  All you need to do is add the details to your email program (Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail etc.) as you would have done for your account with your current ISP.  It is that simple.

We also send you all the details you need to upload your web pages.  You can create your own site, we can create a simple site for you (for an additional fee) or you can pass the access details onto your own web developer.

How much does it cost?

There are two costs: the cost to register the name and the cost to manage your email and website.

Registration cost:

.com.au domain name        $66 every two years.

.com domain name             $44 every two years.

Domain hosting cost:

email only                 $132 per year

email and website    $242 per year

domain manager        $22 per year

(Domain manager allows you to have a second domain name redirected to your primary site without paying for a second set of hosting costs for the second name).
